[disklavier] Re: New Addition to Vault ---this email has 2 nonmidi attachments as well

1999-12-21 by Buffy

If you use a midi editor you will find that the channels are set for
something other
than the piano. I have a five year old MX100 and I have to change
everything to channel one
and two in order to get it to play all the notes. I have to be careful not
to include
drums or snares or percussion. Sounds wild with them.

I have a question for my fellow members:

Why is it that many of the MIDI files I download from the Internet, when
played on my piano, don't actually play the piano part on the keyboard and
pedals? Instead, the piano part plays via the synthesizer as would the
rhythm parts or other instruments. Often, there will be several songs that
play properly, yet others that don't, from the very same download set. The
"Billy Joel" zip file in the vault is an example. Most of the songs play
correctly, but a few synthesize the piano part instead of playing the
keyboard. Any notion of what's happening?

Hello to all; hope you are all having a great holiday.

I just uploaded a file to the vault entitled "Disney Edit". This contains
26 selections that were derived from a variety of internet sites (but mainly
from www.dismusic.com ). The files were heavily edited in many cases--I used
cakewalk and veloset for the most part. I must have started with close to
triple the final amount of songs but kept only those that I felt sounded the
best.

The first 24 files are mostly piano but the last two files have sparse
piano. I included these files---Raiders of the Lost Ark (included in this
collection because Disney's MGM Studio has a Raiders audience participation
show) and Under the Sea (from Lion King) because they sounded incredible on
my DC2S. If you feel they don't go along with the rest of the disk, simply
delete these two and you'll have a disk where all selections are entirely or
mostly piano.

I have attached the song list as a word pad document to this email. If you
print it out exactly as is, it makes an excellent label for the disk. As you
can see in the enclosed picture (sorry it is out of focus, but I don't have
close-up capabilities on my old digital camera), it fits perfectly onto a
standard floppy disk. Just in case people have problems with the
attachments, I will also enclose the song list at the end of the body of
this letter below.

Although it took a lot of work making, I greatly enjoyed putting together
this file. As the father of an 18 month son and with another child on the
way, I hope my family enjoys this disk for years to come. I hope all of you
also get enjoyment from these songs.

I'd also like to thank Todd Muncy again for the tremendous effort he has put
into forming this group. While I've only had my disklavier for three months,
I've been able to start on a pretty diverse collection, thanks in part to
this group.

Lastly I'd like to wish everyone a happy and healthy holiday season.

Barry

Heres the playlist (but as I discuss above, print out the wordpad doc for a
fitted label):
