Re: [disklavier] PianoSmart disc out of sync with music CD

2012-08-15 by Mark Fontana

It's worth a try, but I don't think that will work. PianoSmart tracks
are full of proprietary SYSEX messages that are used to keep the MIDI in
sync with the CD (and also to adjust the pitch of the CD to match the
piano, if necessary). I heard that these messages include a signature
of the audio waveform at specific points in time, or something similar.
This is supposed to make the system able to tolerate different pressings
of CDs that might have more or less delay at the beginning or other
timing differences. I guess you've found a case where that mechanism
isn't working.

If the delay on the CD is really long, maybe the Disklavier is giving up
on finding the signature for the start of the audio and starting the
MIDI track too early. If that seems to be the case, you might try
ripping the CD and burning a new version with empty time ahead of each
track shortened.

Also, your public library might have a different pressing of the CD you
could try.
