I have a DCG1B with an updated DKC850. When I got the piano first it would not record but I got a new key sensor board installed and it now records but very poorly. It misses any notes that are not played very loud. This can't be right surely?

Re: [disklavier] Recording

When the new key sensor board was installed, were the key sensors adjusted to the new board? What model of control box was installed before being replaced by the DKC850? Sounds like the Disklavier computer needs adjusted to the piano. Unless you know what you are doing in running Maintenance Mode, you need the services of a Disklavier technician.

Hi Carol,

It was installed by a disklavier technician. I did the ppp calibration but even when turned down to the minimum value 3 on nearly every note it seems to play it very hard. I did do the calibration within the key measurement etc but is there anything else I can do ?

Hi Donal,

I think I will be able to help you with your issue. It sounds like you actually have a DGC1B, not the model you listed.

I will try to respond in the next 24 hours and will send an email to you directly.

Have faith. The DGC1B is a really nice Disklavier. It is able to record and playback quite decently!

Thanks Bill. Sorry it is definitely a DGC1B with a DKC 850 upgrade. It's like I need to calibrate each key on the piano as its way louder now since I got the key sensor changed. I have faith In you Bill !!

Re: [disklavier] Recording

2013-04-20 by Carol Beigel

You may need to temporarily install the original control box to make some adjustments. First of all, sometimes the MarkIII grand will wake up and think it is an upright. It also MUST be plugged into a grounded outlet.

To make certain that it thinks it is installed on a grand piano, go into test mode and select CTRL SHEET then go to the first menu. The piano type should by GP. Look at the second line of the display. The first line will tell you what version of the software is installed and the second line near the far right should be a GP. If if says U, then press then use the Yes or No buttons to set the piano type.

The key sensor adjustment on a Mark III is tricky and a Disklavier tech should do this. As I recall the procedure is measuring them at 3 different levels - at rest, totally up off the sensor, then pressing each key down. I suspect this is the adjustment that is needed.

The PPP adjustment will do you no good. That is for playback only. Try running Maintenance Mode and see if you get PASS numbers. Pass in this case is bad - it did not pass, but failed. If the adjustment is good, it will say okay.

Once the piano is calibrated using the original control box, it can be switched back over the the DKC850. I do not know if it is possible to adjust the key sensors with the DKC850.

Re: [disklavier] Recording

Also Carol the piano is playing back very loud which does not seem right. Even ppp at the minimum level still presses the note very loud. Is this related to the key sensor problem. I live in Ireland and there are no disklavier Engineers so I will have to try and get this sorted myself.
The engineer I had was guided through the key sensor process by Adrian Thomas who is based in the uk.

Got the test mode and it is set up as GP.

Found this in the service manual and it clearly says this test must be done when key sensor is changed.

I did the all key sensor test by doing the chromatic scale and its not missing a note when recording now which I am thrilled about. The only problem now is that even when I record at a soft touch /low volume it still plays back too loud.

Re: [disklavier] Recording

They all play back too loud! Even if you Record at a velocity of less than 100, the playback automatically defaults to 100. You can adjust this value on the file data using the veloset utility at www. midiplayertools.com, or just turn down the volume when playing back.
