Mark IV Disklavier Android App in Google Play App Store

Mark IV Disklavier Android App in Google Play App Store

2013-05-29 by kenruda

FYI: There is a Mark IV Disklavier Controller App available in the Google Play App Store! I downloaded it and have been testing it out for the past couple of hours.

You will need to have your phone connected via WiFi to the same network or router your piano is plugged into. (Not the Piano's Wifi network used for the PRC-100.)

The app is still in Beta and currently supports basic functions such as turning the piano on from standby, selecting, searching, playing and pausing songs from the PianoSoft or User Libraries. You can also adjust the volume and audio balance as well as switch the piano between Quiet and Acoustic modes.

Go to the Google Play App Store and search for "Disklavier". The App is called: Droidklavier.

You will need to know and key in the IP Address of your piano so that you can connect to your piano. I ended up using the default password on mine.

Odd. I've never been able to get it to work unless my phone was on the piano's network... Can't connect when the phone is on my home's wireless network with the piano...

Wow, I just tried the app being directly connected to the piano's WiFi and it works that way too. I did have to use the 'Restore Defaults' to clear out my piano's ip address on my home network. I guess it works both ways.

Although in my case, it would be easier to just have it talk via my home WiFi instead since I use it frequently.

Double check to see if you have the correct IP address for your piano when it's connected to via your home network by trying to telnet into it.

My piano is assigned a fixed IP address so DKVBrowser can find it easily...

I have to admit, knowing the inner workings of how this communication is handled, I can't imagine how it would work on one network but not the other. I certainly don't do anything in inside DKVBrowser to make it work on "both" networks, it just works on either one...so I'm baffled about the fact that my phone can't connect to it when on the normal wi-fi in my house. It would certainly be much more useful if it worked that way!

Interesting. Did you reserve the Piano's MAC & IP address in your Router so that that your Router assigns the piano the same IP each time via DHCP? Or did you manually enter a fixed IP address, Subnet Mask, DNS and such in the Network section of the Disklavier setup? If the later double check the subnet mask to verify your phone's WiFi IP address while connected to your router is accessible within that same subnet. You can verify that the connection information being used by the Disklavier on page 2/3 of the Network setup screen.

Also check your router's firewall, port forwarding sections in case you are filtering out the ports that are used by the xml and database calls from unknown MAC or IP addresses.

If that looks good, email me your contact info and I would be glad to help trouble shoot over the phone.

I have my router configured by MAC to hand out the same IP via dhcp each time.

I'll play some more to see if I can pinpoint the problem. Mind you... Dkv browser doesn't have a problem from any of 5 or so other computers in the house...

Strange? That's how I have mine configured too. I haven't got to play with the Dkv Browser yet, so I'm not that familiar with it's inter workings. I'm not sure it would run on my Microsoft Surface tablet - which is what I use as my primary web surfing device. Does it use the same two ports as the PRC-100?

Another thought is that your phone may be blocking those ports when connected to a WiFi connection with internet capabilities. Do you have a firewall type app on your phone?

Good luck! Let me know if get it working or want me to help troubleshoot it with you. A second pair of eyes might help.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
