Should I get my piano tuned/serviced before or after Disklavier calibration maintenance
2013-06-13 by Carol Beigel
They are both done at the same service call. The technician runs the calibration, then tunes the piano. Many times I have tuned the piano first if it needed pitch correction, run the calibration, then retuned the piano to increase stability of the tuning. Carol Beigel

Thanks Carol, the problem is that there are no Disklavier technicians in Ireland but I do have a Yamaha Qualified Acoustic technician to go over the mechanical end. Sent from my iPhone

Now we are in to something mechanical and this needs to be done correctly or the pedal solenoid can overheat and shut down the entire Disklavier. Your tech can get illustrated instructions on how to do this. One quick test is as follows. While the Disklavier is powered on, crawl under the piano and look through the vertical slot on the side the black metal cover on the back of the pedals at the top of the rods. While pressing the damper pedal slowly all the way down, see if you can see whether or not a little green light comes on. The crucial adjustment is the 15mm marked L in the maintenance manual. When that is set, the pots are adjusted so the light comes on at the bottom of the stroke. Or, when you put your foot on the damper pedal, how much does it move before the dampers start to rise? This is a much easier adjustment at A on a grand piano, or the top of the pedal rod cap on an upright piano, Again, the Yamaha tech can assist you with this. Disklaviers have a lot of slack built into the system so playback is usually fine even with the piano out of adjustment. It is Recording that needs the more precise adjustments. Good luck. I am getting error 124 on my loud pedal which means I have to adjust the half point. What does this mean and how do I do it. I have the service manual but am unsure how to actually go about doing this. Regards Donal
