PRC-100

PRC-100

2014-02-16 by Julien Roche

My PRC-100 starts to be old. I do not use so much, prefering the Ipad + DKVBrowser.

But there are some functions like calibration etc... that can be done only using PRC. Am I wrong ? is there alternative possibilities to do those functions without the PRC-100 ?
Thank you
Julien

You need the PRC-100 to access all the service functions.

This isn't entirely true.

As I recall from the service manuals, quiet a few of the calibrations can be run by holding down various key combinations on the keyboard while turning on the piano (or some such magic to tell the piano what you are trying to do).

I have considered adding the service features from the PRC into DKVBrowser, but it never seemed like it would be important or worth it since these tools are so very rarely required/used.

In the basic service mode, you can calibrate the pedals and do a general test. To access more complex functions, including full calibration, error log, etc, you really should have the PRC-100.

I wonder if there is some small list of things (viewing the log, full calibration, etc.) that require the PRC-100 and are also "important".

If the list was small enough, I would consider adding them to DKVBrowser. As it stands, there's a TON of stuff in there that may hardly ever be used...and I would just be wasting my time. It's really a shame that Yamaha didn't give us a "virtual" mode for the service utilities like they did for the PRC-100.

The 3 pages I use most when servicing Mark IVs it the connection check, the error log and the calibration options. You'd probably get away with using only the Full Calibration with Sensor Check for the calibration part.
