mk4 hard drive failure

Hello,
Recently my hard drive in my mk4 dc5 disklavier appeared to give out. The REC, user, and Standby light were blinking and Martin (Yamaha tech) told on the phone that it was probably the hard drive and to send it out to him to see if he could image it. If he couldn't then I would have to purchase a new one ($500!) and lose my music that was not backed up (some original songs I'm sad to say). I trust in his abilities, of course, but I would much rather try to fix the drive myself, clone it to an SSD drive (IDE, 3.5 right? with maximum size), and replace the original (keeping it as backup) since I am taking the hdd out.
I have an iMac and an old Mac G4. Does anyone have any suggestions on:
(1) The best way to repair/fix the drive with an adapter, so that I can
(2) Clone to an SSD drive (at maximum capacity)?
(3) Best type of SSD drive to use
I live in El Paso TX and there are no techs in the area, so any information and help will be much appreciated.
Best regards to all,
Juan Ferret
