HQ300SX

2014-09-23 by mike hatch

We are in the process of buying what we now know as a gray market Yamaha Disklavier HQ300SX.
After placing a deposit for half the cost, we did more research on the subject and found out that there could be problems with keeping it in tune, getting parts etc.
We tried the piano and it sounds wonderful having been recently tuned. We live in NH so the climate is not dry like Arizona.
Should we go ahead with the purchase or should we get our deposit back?

Good afternoon, everyone.

Mike, I won’t offer an opinion about the piano and its worthiness because I simply don’t know. Regarding dryness, I’ll point out the following: In the winter time, it is typical for cold, dry air to come into the house whenever a door is opened. The heating system heats the dry and reduces the relative humidity even further. Regardless as to what piano you own, in New England it is generally a good idea to keep the room where the piano is stored humidified.

Regards,
PianoBench

Thank you George,

This piano appears to be in excellent condition inside and out. The seller was able to demonstrate all its capabilities including the silent system.
According to data I was able to obtain online, this piano was built in 1995-1996 and is probably a Mark ll version.
There is no manual with this piano and the site that offers manuals online for the HQ300SX, only offers it in Japanese.

Do you know what model controller it probably has and whether it can be upgraded? I noticed that an instruction manual is available to download from the Disklavier group; It has a 1990 copyright date. would this manual apply to a model made in 1995-96?

The piano will be delivered tomorrow and I would like to know what final tests I should perform before accepting the piano and writing a check for the balance.

Thanks,

Mike H.

Good morning, everyone.

Mike, I apologize for letting your last email slip to the bottom of the virtual pile. Did you take possession of the piano? Do you need further information?

I also have an upright U3 Disklavier HQ300. Does anyone know where I can view a manual, as the control buttons are in Japanese. The display only shows song numbers. How do I get it to display a menu?
Any help greatly appreciated!

Go to www.midiplayertools.com and look at the pictures of the control boxes. Match the one your have (I think it may be the MX100B) and download the manual.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
