Goldberg Variations for Disklavier

Goldberg Variations for Disklavier

2015-04-17 by carlspost2@...

Does anyone know if there is a Disklavier playable version of the Bach Goldberg Variations (not computer sequenced but live) . There was a Zenph release some years ago duplicating the 1955 Gould performance but it is only available in LX format.... I have looked everywhere but cant find anything...

I think I have a version, I'll look. I wish the Gould version was available as a MIDI file.

Did Zenph or anyone else release re-performance type MIDI files for use on disklaviers? I do have a Rach by Rach MIDI set that might have been taken from recordings or player pianos. Are there any others?

Good morning, everyone.

At one point, Wayne Stahnke converted and published the Rachmaninoff Ampico piano roll recordings as MIDI files under his brand called Live Performance.

The Zenph files exist for Disklavier but have never been published for Disklavier.

Re: [disklavier] Goldberg Variations for Disklavier

In 2014, Steinway acquired Zenph's music and software assets along with
the Live Performance LX design. They have released the re-performances
(including the Glenn Gould Goldberg Variations album) as part of the
music library for their recently-launched rebranding of the LX called
"Spirio", which they are offering factory-installed in a few models of
Steinway pianos. It's unlikely that Steinway will officially release
the Zenph albums for other systems, but I've heard that MIDI files from
the Zenph era are circulating around. It's unclear whether Steinway
will try to continue Zenph's work of creating re-performances.

The Live Performance Disklavier diskettes (including the Rachmaninoff
Ampico roll conversions) are still available for purchase through the
Mechanical Music Digest's online store:

If anyone else has MIDI files of Zenph-era recordings, I'd like to know as well.

Good afternoon, everyone.

As I mentioned before, the Zenph reperformances were never published as MIDI files for Disklavier. This means that if they can be found in this format, they are bootlegs.

Hi Pianobench,

I am a bit confused because all the demos of the Gould Goldberg variations that I have seen are performed on a Yamaha Disklavier Pro...

eg New Technology Recaptures Pianists of the Past

Are you just saying that they were never released to the public?

Cheers,
Carl
