Pedal bounce

Pedal bounce

2016-01-28 by carl schmidt

Hi All,
After successfully connecting my disklavier to record midi on my pc, I have found a strange thing happening with the pedal input.
Instead of recording one clear 'pedal down' event it seems to detect around 7 'pedal down' movements. I have read somewhere that it's called pedal bounce... (? )
Is there any reason why this would happen? It creates a lot of confusion and complication when rendering midi files to virtual piano ...
Is there a way to rectify this?
Many thanks...

Good evening, everyone.

Carl, am I correct that you are recording multiple messages for controller 64 (sustain pedal) each time you move the pedal? If so, are the values various numbers between 0 and 127?

It is normal for a Disklavier to generate incremental pedal messages that describe various positions of the pedal between fully up and fully down. A value of 0 = fully up and a value of 127 = fully down.

if your virtual piano software does not like incremental pedal events, i
have a program that will convert them to on and off events only. you can
choose the on and off thresholds separately.
