DKC 100R message (PWM over)

DKC 100R message (PWM over)

2016-05-27 by veejayway@...

Hello,
I'm getting an error message of "(PWM over) piano power off"

Does anyone know what this means?

Thank you,
Paul Cole

It is a Pulse Width Modulation error. This normally indicates a short in the drive system or a power supply problem. Does it occur immediately after turning on your Disklavier, or does it occur very shortly after a few notes are played?

The piano will play through 2-3 tunes and then abruptly stop and give the message. I then turn off the unit and then back on, after which it will play for a very short time.

Ok. It sounds like you have either a bad solenoid or bad solenoid driver board.

To confirm, make a recording of you loudly playing each key 10 times, going up the scale chromatically. Then play it back and see which key causes the PWM OVER message to occur. Then turn off the piano and turn it on and replay that song you recorded and see if the PWM OVER message occurs on the same key. If so, either that solenoid or the drive board it is connected to has failed.

Thanks Bill.
I followed the directions that you gave in the last post. The message came up before I finished recording the 10 hit pattern. I turned off the unit, and back on again. The error message came up almost immediately.

Please clarify. Did the error come on while you were doing your recording or when you were doing the playback of your recording?

When you turned the unit off then on again, did the error come up without doing any recording or playback?

Both errors occurred before any playback. The second occurred without any recording or playback.
Thanks,

Ok. It sounds then like a power supply problem or a short somewhere. You should call Yamaha Piano Service at 714-522-9894. They can advise how to further troubleshoot the issue.
