RE: [disklavier] Midi files and the DKV

RE: [disklavier] Midi files and the DKV

2002-01-11 by Carol Beigel

Yamaha refers to MIDI files as "import files". When the Disklavier is
playing a MIDI file, you can assign the piano to play Channels 1 and 2, or
better known on the Control Panel as L and R. Usually L is set to play
whatever is on Channel 1, but this can be changed. I think the default is
R=## which means the piano is playing nothing on Channel 2. Either L or R
can be set to play whatever is on the MIDI file by setting L= to any number
1-16, or Prg or PrgAll.

I find the easiest way to see what tracks are available on any given MIDI
file my DKV is playing is simply to push the -> one time. You see something
like OOoo oooo o[]oo oooo Whatever little o's are black and flashing are
the tracks that are playing on the MIDI file. The square on track 10 is the
percussion. The large O's are L and R. So if you see that the first O is
black, then L=1 and the keyboard is playing that track. If R=## then the
second O, even if black and flashing, is not playing on your keyboard.
Press the -> until R is flashing, then push the Yes key until R=2, or any of
the other flashing o's. Now the keys are playing whatever tracks you
selected to play on both Channel 1 and 2. However, this arrangement stops
when you turn the DKV off, so if you want to make the settings stable, you
press Function and set L=1 and R=2 or whatever. Then press Enter to save the
setting.

I have a MarkIIXG system. This situation is explained in the Owners Manual
for your DKV under Import Files. I must say though, that PianoBench did a
fabulous job of writing the Reference Manuals to the Mark II and Mark IIXG
systems where all this MIDI stuff is described in beautiful, easy-to-read
detail. Thank you for such a fine piece of work!
