Good afternoon, everyone.
I can’t speak for Yamaha on this issue and doubt that anyone on this list can. However, I can point out that despite the ease with which DisklavierTV customers can receive content, there are many significant challenges faced by the providers of that content (i.e. Yamaha).
For starters, the performance has to be licensed from the performers. The performers may or may not be willing for a performance to live on, in perpetuity, as on-demand content.
Then, there is the licensing of the music itself. Often the performers and the rights-holders to the music are different individuals or entities.
Lastly, when a streamed concert becomes available on-demand, synchronization rights enter the picture. The holder of synchronization rights may or may not be the same as the holder of the public performance rights. And, the holder of sync-rights may think that there ought to be a much bigger fee paid for sync-rights (much like the fees paid to synchronize music in movies.)
I have no idea which—if any—of these issues may be at play in this situation. I’m just pointing them out as possible reasons for why something that seems so simple as putting up the content on-demand may, in fact, be not so simple.
Regards,
PianoBench
