May I ask your help

May I ask your help

Thank you in advance for the help.

I am trying to help friend who has the following Disklavier configuration

DKC-100r (display is not working, the unit is)

MU-50 with powered speakers

Pass through midi cable

Windows 10 computer

Midisport Uno 1x1 midi cables

Van Basco & Yamplayer

The Setup:

The computer is connected to the MU-50’s midi in and mid out with the Midisport Uno.

The MU-50 is connected to the DKC 100R with the pass-through cable.

What works:

The piano plays “piano only” (Channels 1 & 2) fine

The Issue:

When the system is tasked to play Piano and XG(plus parts) (1- 16)

The piano plays the piano part

The MU-50 plays both the piano and the “plus parts” a half second later.

My question:

HOW do I stop the MU 50 from duplicating the piano part on the speakers?

How to I match the timing so that the piano and the plus parts are synced?

One other issue is that VanBasco allows you to control the volume, tempo and modulation.

The VanBasco volume control does not work on the actual piano. The other functions tempo and modulation work on the piano.

VanBasco controls work fine with the MU-50 output.

My Thinking:

I believe that this is a matter of setup but I have not been able to find the “how to” in the manual for the MU-50 and DKC 100r. Additionally if the settings have to be changed on the DKC-100r I will not be able to see what I am doing as the display has failed.

Help need:

Does anyone know the steps that I should take to correct these challenges?

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Good afternoon, everyone.

Dan, what you want to do is possible, but you may need access to the screen of the control unit to ensure the correct MIDI settings.

(1) Connect MIDI Out from the Computer to MIDI In of the Disklavier.

(2) Connect MIDI Out from the Disklavier to MIDI In of the MU50.

With this basic configuration, the idea is that the Disklavier will receive all 16 channels of MIDI data, play some of those channels on the piano, and simultaneously pass the remaining data to the tone generator. However, additional settings are necessary to make this work correctly:

(3) Set the DIsklavier’s MIDI In channel(s) to match the channel(s) that contain the incoming piano tracks.

(4) Turn on the MIDI In Delay: MIDI IN=DELAY IN (500ms)
If you don’t turn on the MIDI In delay, the piano and tone generator will be out of sync.

(5) I believe that you must also set ENSEMBLE OUT to OFF in the MIDI section of the control unit’s menu in order to ensure that the piano data is not passed on to the tone generator.

Let us know how it goes!
