Playing MIDI files on DKC100XG

2017-06-21 by btchow@...

I'm posting this topic to help users create floppies containing MIDI files for the DKC100XG Disklavier controller.

1. Buy a 3.5" 1.44 mb floppy drive and floppy disks on Amazon

2. Download any MIDI file off the Internet and check the file type in gnmidi. DKC100XG only plays Type 0 so you can use gnmidi to convert from Type 1 to Type 0. Save to floppy disk.

3. Midi files MUST be renamed such that their file names are 8 characters or less. If the filename is more than 8 characters, the controller will get confused and repeat that song endlessly.

If you follow the above advice, you'll be able to consistently create working floppies. Unfortunately, for this controller, there is no way to randomize songs.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
