How to put E-SEQ files on a floppy using a TEAC USB UF000x external floppy drive and a Mac?

How to put E-SEQ files on a floppy using a TEAC USB UF000x external floppy drive and a Mac?

Hi everybody. I just bought an upright MX100A, and I'd like to add midi files found on the internet and put them on floppy disc.
I have a Mac running MacOS Sierra 10.12.5, an external TEAC USB UF000x floppy drive and some TDK MF2DD floppy discs.
My computer does not recognize the discs, and seems not to be able to format them.
Maybe I need the mac driver for the external TEAC drive: where can I find it?
Which is the right format for the floppies to be used on my disklavier? Is it right that MX100A uses E-SEQ files?

Thank you.
Gianluca

The MX100A only sees ESEQ files on 720k diskettes. Maybe you might get lucky and be able to tape off the square opening on a 1.44 disk. To learn more about this, and how to convert MIDI to ESEQ, see www.midiplayertools.com

Your best bet is to use Bluetooth, so see www.midiplayertools.com/Connecting.htm for all the details. The MD BT01 works on any old system with both a MIDI IN port and MIDI OUT port.

There aren't any Mac-based tools for authoring Disklavier floppies that I know of. If you're really determined, you might be able to set up MSDOS or FreeDOS on a Parallels virtual machine and then use the ancient, DOS-based Giebler software YDM (Yamaha Diskette Manager), available at http://giebler.com/ This is a messy and awkward thing to do in 2017, and even if you can get it to work, the Giebler software has a clumsy user interface that is time-consuming to use.

I'm pretty sure the MX100A supports only 720 KB floppies, and those are difficult to find these days. To work reliably, such floppies should be written using a true 720 KB floppy drive (not a 1.44 MB drive). Nobody makes external USB 720 KB floppy drives, because 720 KB drives were obsolete long before USB hit the market.

It would be far less hassle to just stream MIDI to the MX100A's MIDI IN port from your Mac or iOS device running Sweet MIDI Player. A variety of MIDI interfaces are available, some wireless (via Bluetooth) and some wired. Several of them have been discussed recently on this forum; please review past threads for details.
