Calibration of Mark III DKC55rcd

Calibration of Mark III DKC55rcd

2018-03-13 by Patricia Spedden

Where can I find instructions for calibrating a DC6A Mark III Disklavier with a DKC55RCD control box? I cannot find anyone in a couple hundred mile radius who can do this except for one company, who said it could be some time before they could make that long a trip, and that I should be able to do this calibration myself. I've scoured the Internet and cannot find calibration instructions for my model.
Sincerely,Patricia Spedden

(I am on the road so please send me direct email to azornes@...)

I have almost the same configuration as you (mine is DC6A Mark III with DKC-850 added on)

Yamaha DK support patiently walked me thru the process over the phone in real-time plus retired Yamaha super tech BillB sent me url for PDF

I wrote up my simplified (for non piano technician people like me) and will happily send you that document ... there are a few steps in the “official” documentation which could be clearer ... so I added my notes to those steps

My EDITED version of previous posts

Yamaha told me that the DKC-850 was irrelevant as the tuning is in the firmware for the Mark III ready DC6A I own

It worked (!)

DKC-850 Piano Calibration Notes

I got to the piano service screen by holding "select" "record" and power on. Then when the screen came up it says, "maintenance[system]"

From there, I had to use the hand held remote to continue. Press the SYSTEM button on the remote, and you'll be able to navigate the menus by then pressing the "R" button.

the following is from a post:

by UnrightTooner.

"You can check the state of the Disklavier functionality by running the calibration function:

· Hold down both 'Song Select' buttons ( << and >> ) while powering up. The piano should go into "Maintenance Mode".

· Press the "R" button until it says "Loud Pedal".

o Press play. The piano will play and measure the sustain pedal.

o Eventually it should say "OK".

· Switch off the piano and repeat the above but press "R" until it says "Soft Pedal".

o Press play and wait until it says "OK" again.

· Then switch off and repeat the procedure but press the "R" button until it says "Keyboard Measurement".

o Press the "Play" button. The piano will start playing all keys repeatedly. Eventually, it'll say "Calculation".

· After a while, it will hopefully say "OK Press STOP".

o Hit the stop button and it will come up with "END".

You can now turn off the piano and turn it back on to go into normal operating mode.

· If the piano does not come up with "OK" or "OK Press STOP", there is a problem with the key or pedal drive.

· Also listen for any unusually noisy solenoids while it is playing.

· Be aware that this takes a while and the keyboard measurement gets very noisy.

· Don't interrupt anything while it is measuring and don't press anything until the "OK" message appears."
