[disklavier] Midi Editing - CAKEWALK PRO AUDIO V. 9
2019-08-10 by Geoff Ward
A further comment, Sheldon - 64bit Windows 10 is designed to run 32bit programs. If you can't run Cakewalk v.9, it is a setup problem rather than the wrong operating system. To set it up after installation, make a shortcut from the file "C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk\Cakewalk Pro Audio 9\cwpa.exe". Go to the Program file folder - don't use the shortcut that the installation process might have put in your Start menu or on your desktop. The new shortcut will have to be placed on your desktop (as you normally won't have file creation rights in the Program files (x86) directory). If you are able to create a shortcut in the Program Files (x86) directory, copy it to your desktop. Right click on the new shortcut and select Properties. Under the Compatibility tab, Compatibility mode should already be selected for Windows XP (Service Pack 3). Still in the Shortcut properties screen, select the Shortcut tab, then the button for Advanced. Under Advanced, check the box for "Run as administrator". I think that that is about all I did to get it working. Kind regards Geoff Ward

This is the old version 9 you are referring to - I think it is a 2006 era program. I am told that the same program is now available from Bandlab.com for free. See link below. They probably work best on XP, Vista or 7 (but it has to be a 32 bit OS) Cakewalk 6.0 on a legacy laptop connected by an "M-Audio" USB interface to the midi input of the DKC-850 visualizes all the channels in real time and allows real time manipulation of channels, tracks and other midi parameters You can save as type 0 or type 1. You can see pedal data in real time on an event list. You can see musical staff and you can even back-generate sheet music from any midi file. As I said, it is almost as if these programs were custom made for the Disklavier I wish Yamaha would resurrect these legacy programs and offer them with the pianos - it would make editing so much easier for so many users It is best to get an old legacy windows laptop (XP or 32 bit 7) and install cakewalk and it becomes a dedicated midi editor for the Disklavier It is really a shame that there is no current program I have been able to find which has the simplicity and elegance of cakewalk for the Disklavier These legacy programs occasionally come up on ebay - grab them if you can (they require a serial number for installation) - unfortunately Gibson bought Cakewalk several years ago, ran it into the ground and Cakewalk now no longer exists as a company, so you cannot purchase these programs any longer from the company I hope this information is helpful to the Disklavier community Sheldon Deluty On 8/8/2019 9:17 PM, Ian wam@... <mailto:wam@...> [disklavier] wrote: Carl, the XP format works fine for me in playback on my Mac thru older Standard Midi Editors and players. The extra info seems to be ignored by those Apps but the Pro pianos seem to read the XP content regardless. I notice that Steinway provides an Editor in an iPad with their recording version of the Spirio. DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A YAMAHA DESIGNED EDITOR? Their site offers a lot of obscure technical Apps but not a basic Editor. Yamaha were using Zenph to create the e-Competition files. I have Zenph for Mac, which I bought in 2002, but all the Zenph files and apps were sold to Steinway and withdrawn from the general market. So, DOES ANYONE HAVE ZENPH FOR WINDOWS? - because I have friends with Disklaviers using Windows - and it is perfect for optimising files for many different Yamaha Disklaviers and will convert to and from XP, Pro, MkIV, III, II etc.. Might be good to start with a few samples from each year to see how consistent the formatting is of the text events. Then we can figure out how to send them. Actually I have already sent you an email in regard to this so forgive the double up if you discover the duplicated message. Your e-piano comp files have been just wonderful. Especially in my teaching when I am able to quickly search for a particular piece of music and getting it playing on the Disklavier. I am happy to help you update your midi files. If you are happy to add the meta date etc to the file names I will send you all the files. It may take a bit of time but I will try my best to get them to you. Sound like a fair deal? :) Cheers, Carl On Thursday, 8 August 2019, 03:38:23 pm AEST, 'Spencer Chase' lists@... <mailto:lists@...> [disklavier] <disklavier@yahoogroups.com <mailto:disklavier@yahoogroups.com> > wrote: i have all of the e-comp files up to 2011 with meta data as keyworded text events and track names as composites of title composer and performer. i also have tag.txt files for these which can be used with mid2pianocd. i had to download the meta data from the web site and insert it into the files because the earlier stuff did not have this data in the files. it looks like the 2017 files might have this data which would make it much easier to add the data in a consistent format as i did with the older files. i donot want to take the large amount of time needed to download all of these files but if someone will send them to me i can add the text events and track names to the post 2011 files. i think that i formatted the text events so the data shows up in van bascos. Hi All, I have a large number of midi files that are saved using abbreviated titles. However, in the actual midi file themselves there is a lot of other information regarding the name of the music and performer etc. These include files available from the e-piano-competition (http://www.piano-e-competition.com/midi_2017.asp <http://www.piano-e-competition.com/midi_2017..asp> ) For example, the attached file is named "CaoJ01.mid " however, the detail are found as text events within the file: text_event 0 Title: Prelude and Fugue in D Minor, WTC II, BWV 875 text_event 0 Composer: Johann Sebastian Bach text_event 0 Performer: John Cao My question therefore is this: is there a program that allows one to search multiple files based on information within the file..... or is there a quick way to rename the files using the text event info. At the moment I have no way of storing the many (100's) of midi file in any logical order. Many Thanks! Carl
