disklavier mx80

2019-08-13 by Ben Bootsma

Hi, Ben here, a new member.

I'm considering purchasing a disklavier mx80, and am wondering if it is possible to get it to play midi files that I create and edit in logic audio audio 9, and what is involved in the process.

Can anybody help?

- Ben

As I recall, the MX80 only plays ESEQ format midi files from a 720k floppy disk. It might be piano only because I don‘t think it has a daughter board with other midi sounds.

However, for my customer that has one, we converted his original floppies to midi files and loaded them into Sweet Midi Player and played them thru the MD BT01 wireless interface and his iPhone.

I remember that years ago we used an iRig Midi interface from his laptop. So yes, the MX80 will play midi files from a computer thru an interface.

If you wanted to go retro, you could convert your midi files to ESEQ format and put them on a floppy disk using a utility program so your computer would see the disk.

All the older file formats and software are explained at www.midiplayertools.com

Carol is correct. I have an Mx-88 that I have and still plays great. Original drive plays 720k floppies in eseq format.

I replaced my floppy drive with SD card drive Emulator that works perfect. It takes a lot of time and effort to copy and covert floppies and downloads to the SD card, but it's worth it.

If you have a bit of electronics knowledge and are familiar with computer floppy drives installation of Emulator not bad.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
