Yahoo Groups service changing soon
2019-10-16 by Mark Fontana
It appears that Yahoo (in decline for years) will be quietly scaling
down the Yahoo Groups service very soon. Though they haven't announced
this directly to members, alert boxes on their web interface mention the
coming changes. Details are here:
https://help.yahoo.com/kb/groups/SLN31010.html
It looks like the changes involve:
 - All groups are becoming private, accessible to new users only by
invitation from an admin
 - No uploads to a group's archive are permitted after October 21, 2019
 - All existing uploads will be deleted on December 14, 2019
 - The following features will be removed:
* Files
* Polls
* Links
* Photos
* Folders
* Calendar
* Database
* Attachments
* Conversations
* Email Updates <-- I think this refers to announcements of new files
being added to the archive, not postings
* Message Digest
* Message History <-- web interface to the past postings
The changes seem aimed at limiting Yahoo's liability for hosting
user-provided content without just outright killing the service immediately.
But as a private group available by invitation only, it will become
difficult for new Disklavier owners to discover that it exists. And
anyone reading this group on the web instead of by email will be cut off.
So maybe it's time to 1) look at ways to preserve the years of
information that's been exchanged in this group, and 2) consider moving
to another provider.
