Hello everybody I just upload the file chalet.zip. Sorry for not contributing untill now. I just bought the piano recently. Best regards. Viet Hoang

Viet, Thanks for the contribution of chalet.zip. I just went through all 50+ songs. There's some decent piano bar stuff in it, mixed in with some heavily orchestrated stuff with little or no piano. I edited them off my floppy, leaving just the twenty some odd piano bar pieces. I zipped them up and put them in chalet-piano bar in the piano bar folder of the vault. This will save others the time needed to edit them. I also threw out a couple I just didn't like so you may still want to check out the original collection. Thanks for the site - keep up the good work !
Do you have a policy on file types. I have plenty of reproducing
piano roll transcriptions I could send but so far, I've submitted complete disc
images in Diskalvier format. Would you prefer separate MIDIs - that's just
as easy ?

I try to set as few policies
as possible because I want this site to belong to the group and be guided by
consensus. My feeling, subject to other opinions, is that for most of the
members the most useful zip files represent a well edited floppy they would keep
by the piano. By that I mean it fits on a 1.44MB floppy, is consistent as
to genre and volume, and be piano solo or lightly orchestrated. Files
could be DLV disk, midi 0 or midi 1 types. Those that can't handle all file
types should have utilities to convert. Those that require 720kb floppies
can unzip on their hard drives and break it into more than one floppy if
necessary. That's asking a lot and not completely realistic, but one of
the big potential benefits of this forum is that we are all using disklaviers
and interested in non-classical, therefore we can benefit from all the hard work
each of us has done over years sifting through all the raw material on the web,
distilling it down to just the quality piano or mostly piano music. The
volume issue is the toughest. I use the piano when we entertain (often)
and I just can't deal with a quiet tinkling cut followed by a hammer busting
boogie-woogie. I would however, prefer contributions of quality, not so
well edited stuff vs. no contributions at all. We could even create a
folder called "poorly edited".
ANYBODY OUT THERE KNOW OF AN INEXPENSIVE UTILITY OR SHAREWARE
THAT WILL TAKE A FOLDER OR FLOPPY OF MIDI FILES AND LEVEL OUT THE VOLUME LEVELS
CONTAINED THEREIN? THAT WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL.
I know from our other communications that you have large
volumes of material. Given our 20MB limit in the vault, you should not go
too crazy putting up raw material. A simple 5MB contribution would be a
nice start. Everyone should feel free to create other folders in the vault
if the ones I've already created don't apply. Also when you find a
goldmine of midi's on the web that you don't have time to download and/or edit,
post the URL only into the vault. They take up no space. Also use
URL's if you suspect they contain copyrighted performance disks.
Hope this vague crap helps guide you. I'd appreciate
input and ideas on more definitive standards we could set from you and the rest
of the group. Let's talk about this guys.
