DGH1PE

2002-05-07 by david lasley

Hello group members. Last weekend my wife and I bit the bullet and purchased a new 5'3" Disklavier Mark III full function grand. It is scheduled for delivery later this week. The floor models we viewed at the local dealer were the 5'3" DGH1BXG playback and the DC1A Full function. ; Although the DC1A was impressive we couldn't justify the additional cost for the conservatory model and we wanted the full function disklavier the playback model didn't have. Our dealer told us he had a middle model at his warehouse that would meet our needs...a model DGH1PE. He explained it was a home use model similar to the DGH1BXG yet had a support bar on the lid and a full function disklavier. Satisfied, we accepted his middle model price. After searching later on the internet including Yamaha's website, we are unable to find any info. about a model DGH1PE piano. Not that we don't trust the dealer, but is anyone aware of this particular model and able to offer us any insight and comfort on our purchase? Any info. would be appreciated.
thanks

David,

I believe I'd phone the dealer to confirm "DGH1PE". If there is such a
thing, I'd insist on seeing a catalog page, spec sheet, or instruction
book describing it. A reputable dealer should not have let you out of
the store without a clear description of what you are buying. You
certainly are not obligated to accept an instrument described as "sorta
like something else."

Personally, I like the idea of getting an instrument fresh out of the
crate, as this one seems to be. However, I would ask for the serial
number and the year it was built. (With the S/N, you can, if needed,
find out for yourself when it was built.) If this one turns out to be
a few years old and hasn't moved, and it's truly what you want, I'd
negotiate on the price.

I hope you shopped around at several dealers around the country. It's
surely not too late to do so. By letting dealers know that they are
bidding against each other, you might even be surprised to find what you
can get a DC1A for.

Good luck!

Robert-
I'm going to do just that in the AM. Your advice well received. Thanks. I just wanted to get a little more third party input before confronting him. As far as the price goes, I have a price guarantee that if I can find it cheaper from any other dealer within 30 days of purchase, I get the difference plus 10%. I'm paying $20K for the DGH1PE full function. The DC1A full function was $25.3K and the DGH1BXG playback $18.5. If you know of better pricing, I'm all ears.

I recently got a DC2A from a dealer in Canada that was several
thousands less than any local dealer for the same piano. The price
for the this piano, which is the 5'8'' size, delivered, was 19.8K.
We have had it for 3 months and love it. The best price we got in
the US was 26K plus tax, plus, delivery, plus set-up.

Re: DGH1PE

The dealer is located at:

http://www.keyboardcentre.com/Our_Locations.htm

Burlington location.

Point of contact: Mr. Steve Loates

To Consider:

This is a brand new piano made for the North American region (5 World
regions based on temp and humidity). Piano is new, in factory crate
(which is very thick and sturdy cardboard!!!!). You must unload the
piano from the truck (weighs 800 lbs, took 5 men about 15 minutes).
Piano must be uncrated and assembled and tuned, this took 2 hours and
cost a total of $250).

DGH1PE

2002-05-08 by david lasley

To All-
Thanks so much for you input. I met with the dealer this afternoon to get "the facts" concerning our purchase. The DGH1PE is the GH1B equipped with the Mark III disklavier in Polished Ebony. MSRP is just over $31K and the piano is a new '02 model. Although we're going to get beat up on the $1K sales tax, we feel the $20K purchase price incl. delivery and setup is competitive with other US dealers. So, we finalized the deal and can't wait to begin our exciting life with our new entertainment showpiece. Thanks again.

Although others may disagree, I think that you are wise to have worked out a
deal with a local dealer. Delivery, setup (including on-site calibration), a
local person to call if something goes wrong with the initial delivery or
setup, and the beginning of a relationship with an accessessible business
that offers support are all important aspects to your Disklavier purchase. It
is hard to put a dollar value on these things.

The DGH1B PE which is a polished ebony GH1B piano with a Mark III
Disklavier. The DC1A is the conservatory model of the same piano. These
Mark III pianos come with Smart Key, Silent mode and a CD rom player
attached to the control box. The old model was a GH1BIIXG play only model.
The big difference, besides the price, is the sound of the pianos. The GH1B
piano sounds brashier and the scale is not as clean in the C4-C3, B3-B2,
A#3-A#2 octaves. The Disklaviers are identical.
