Is it possible to record MIDI files on a CD with my computer and then play them on the Disklavier CD drive? I am familiar with putting MIDI files on low density disks formatted on the Disklavier piano, but have wish I could get more capacity via a CD. Thanks, Jim

In short, no. Currently, the CD drive is used for the PianoSoft Plus Audio discs, in which the audio and midi data are together. If you play one of those discs in a normal CD player, you will notice a screeching sound, which is the midi data in an analog form (strangely enough). Because of this, it appears that you could only store 74 minutes of MIDI data on a CD, but you need software/hardware to convert it to the "analog MIDI" that the Disklavier's CD drive can play. -macaw22@... --- In disklavier@y..., "jameshhoffman" <pilotjim99@a...> wrote: > Is it possible to record MIDI files on a CD with my computer and then > play them on the Disklavier CD drive? You can, of course, keep MIDI files on a data CD and play your DKV from a laptop through a MIDI interface using a sequencer such as PowerTracks. A CD has the capacity for many hundreds of PianoSoft diskettes. Through judicious use of folders and long file names, pieces are easy to locate using Windows' "Find". jameshhoffman wrote: > Is it possible to record MIDI files on a CD with my computer and then > play them on the Disklavier CD drive? Is Cakewalk Home Studio 2002 also an acceptable software to play MIDI files from a CD through the DKV? What is the physical hardware set-up? What did you mean by "Through judicious use of folders and long file names, pieces are easy to locate using Windows' "Find"." Can I copy files from Yamaha PianoSoft disks to make a master CD? Thanks for your help. Jim

pilotjim99@... wrote: > Is Cakewalk Home Studio 2002 also an acceptable software to play MIDI files > from a CD through the DKV? +++ Possibly . . . if Cakewalk Home Studio 2002 can play any MIDI file, the source whether floppy, HD, or CD is irrelevant. Before you buy the program though, make sure it will modify note velocities--something you will probably want to do sometime. If you don't already have the program, consider PG Music's Power Tracks What is the physical hardware set-up? A laptop with a CD drive and external MIDI interface (MIDI Sport 1 X 1), and a MIDI cable to your DKV. You'd also need a computer with a CD-R burner. What did > you mean by "Through judicious use of folders and long file names, pieces are > easy to > locate using Windows' "Find"." +++ Here's an example of one of mine: PianoSoft\1076-MSC=Phantom of the Opera - Keveren\08-Wishing You Were Somehow Here.mid Can I copy files from Yamaha PianoSoft disks > to make a master CD? +++ Sure. You will need the Giebler Utilities or the utilities downloadable from this site. Thanks for your help.
