Re: [disklavier] Continous sustaining pedal?

This will be a short answer from me as I am leaving for the airport and
will be away from e-mail for 9 days.

I believe you could be experiencing a problem with continuous sustaining
pedaling. Instead, you may be getting on/off pedaling. One could have
a problem depending on the way you are using the files and the model of
DKV. (I can only speak for Mark II).

Thankfully, the sustaining pedal continuous data are contained within
the files. However, they are directed to MIDI channel 1, instead of
channel 3.

What I have done to ensure having continuous sustain pedal action was to
move all the controller data from the first track to a second track and
to change it from channel 1 to channel 3. In that way the MIDI file has
nearly the same form as a PianoSoft file converted to MIDI using Giebler
Utilities. I used Cakewalk and CAL routines to do this. In playing
such a MIDI file through the DKV's MIDI-in port, you will need to set
the DKV's "MIDI IN" for CH=HP (rather than CH=01).

An important point: Are your pedals in adjustment and calibrated? To
reproduce pedaling accurately, they absolutly must match those of the
recording piano. (BTW, the locked nuts on the end of my Mark II grand's
sustain pedal pushrod used to walk out of adjustment on me. I put
plumbers teflon sealing tape on the rod threads and stopped that.)

All for now.
