Hello, Yamaha Support has not responded to my e-mails asking what is required to adapt my piano to a different voltage source. Can I just buy a new controller and plug it in? If so where do I buy one from when I get to the USA. Anybody know? Thanks

I can't speak for Yamaha, but I would guess that, because of warranty and legal concerns, they would have you change out the DGT's power supply for 120 VAC, 60 Hz input. That could be a rather expensive fix. If the DGT were mine, I would first take a look at the existing DGT power supply to see if it has a selector switch on it to allow one to choose either 120 or 240 volts. If so, I'd change the setting to 120 VAC and replace the power plug or add an adaptor plug to it. Otherwise, I would buy a 120 VAC to 240 VAC step-up transformer sold for that purpose. Check your manual to see if it states the nominal input power required and get a transformer of at least that capacity. Otherwise, if you're not equipped to measure the input power, I'd suggest getting a 300 or 500 watt transformer which would surely be more than adequate. Don't worry about the 50 Hz/60 Hz issue. The change to 60 Hz may affect the power supply's efficiency slightly, but that should not be a concern. You can find converting transformers on the Web. Here's the first URL I found: http://www.dvdoverseas.com/voltage_converterfaq.htm If you go this way, realize that you probably don't have a warranty. (You probably don't have one anyway when you move the DGT to the USA.) More importantly, I would locate the transformer where it will remain cool, and I'd power it only when I'm present and using the DGT. cdstacker2000 wrote: > Hello, > > Yamaha Support has not responded to my e-mails asking what is > required to adapt my piano to a different voltage source. Robert, Thanks for the feedback. There is no external voltage selector switch that I can see but the xformer is a good idea. I guess the 50/60HZ issue worried me more such as, if the floppy changed speed or the processor didn't work or the internal transformer was affected. Thanks again.

Len, the internals, including floppy drive, surely run on DC from the power supply, so the AC frequency will not affect them. Len Kosharek wrote: > Robert, > > > > Thanks for the feedback.
