MIDI files

2002-10-15 by amcmast2

Hi,
My name is Alan and I am trying to figure out whether or not MIDI
files can be used on my disklavier. I have a model MX 100 that plays
pianosoft music that I believe is in ESEQ format. Can anyone tell me
if MIDI files can be saved/downloaded in this format so they can be
played on my piano. I don't have any expertise in the area.

Thanks

You cannot play MIDI files on an MX100. However, there is free software in
the utilities files called dkvutil that will convert MIDI files to ESEQ
files.

I tried using dkvutil to convert a MIDI file to ESEQ. The MIDI file has
converted to a FIL file. My piano gives a "cannot execute" message when I
try to play the file. Any way to correct this?
Thanks

Alan,

The .fil file is ESEQ format,so the file should play.

Be sure the diskette has no other files on it. In particular, the
disk will not play if it contains both MIDI and ESEQ (.fil) files.
And in the case of the MX100, I am not sure if it accepts HD
(1.44MB) diskettes as well as DD/DS diskettes (720kB. Try using a
720k diskette if there is any doubt.

Re: [disklavier] MIDI files

When you use the dvkutil package , use the Eexplore program, right click on the pianodir.fil and built the index from the file that are on your diskette, or your file on your hard drive.
All the file need to be already in "fil" extension.
If you have use the dvk util programm there is also a txt file, just read it, it giv ou all the info..
Good luck

MIDI files

2017-02-09 by squiredeli@...

Hello,
I have a E3 disklavier and am trying to play midi files via USB with a thumb drive. The files show up on the display and seem to start when I push play, but I get nothing, no sound and keys don't play? The midi settings are set to USB for both in and out, please help.

i don't know the specifics of your DKV and what settings need to be in order to play from a USB drive. the fact that the files do show up suggests that you have it at least partly right :)

what files are you trying to play? not all files will work on a particular instrument. as far as i know, my files will work on any DKV if the player setting are correct. if yo uahve not tried some of my files, i can send some for you to try.

If you used a MAC to place the files on the thumbdrive, most likely the problem is caused by the invisible MAC trash files on the thumbdrive. You can't see them in your MAC, but you can see them in a PC.

These files can cause the problem you are describing with your E3.

There is an app called Blue Harvest that can keep your external drives clean of these files.

Re: [disklavier] MIDI files

What I have found is that when I load MIDI files onto a thumb drive I get these extra files. I can’t see them with my Mac, but I can see them when I look at the folder on my Disklavier. They do not play… These junk files are arranged first before I get to my “real” MIDI files. they have extra characters in front of the actual file name. For example, I just added a MIDI to my thumb drive and on my Disklavier it is showing as 001:._The Entertainer.mid. There is a period and underscore before the name of the track. This is the junk file and needs to be deleted. This was my work around, individually delete each one of the junk files through the Disklavier device. A bit of a pain in the *** but It worked.

Thanks for that information Bill! I have a Mac so I will have to try it :)

Bobbie, get the Blue Harvest app and your problems will go away. It is much, much easier than deleting these trash files individually.

Did you check that the track with the data is set to channel 1 or channel 4? I use Anvil Studio to edit the midi files and set the channel for playback on my disklavier. Hope this helps.

Yes, I downloaded a midi file from Yamaha and it worked fine. Must've been the files themselves, unless I did something wrong? Basically I was on midiworld.com clicked to download some files to the desktop and then transferred to a thumb drive. Is there some software I need to run them through first?

i have a free program called midimod2 on my web site on the download page. it will do some of what you need to make files work on the DKV but there are all sorts of things that might be wrong with the file and my program only fixes a few things. the main use of the program is to modify loudness profiles but there is an option to put piano parts on channels 1 and 2 and pedal on channel 3. depending on the vintage of DKV you have, you may need to convert to type 0 MIDI. i have another program on the same page that does that. both programs work in batch mode so you can process a lot of files with little effort.

Most MIDI files do not have pedal data on ch 3 which my Mark II seems to require. MIDIMod does this for me - invaluable.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
