MTNA High School Piano Competition Finalists

2002-12-18 by PianoBench@aol.com

Good morning, everyone.

At long last, the 2002 Music Teachers National Association High School Piano
Competition finalists are on the MTNA web site. These students recorded on a
Disklavier at the 2002 convention. You can these student recordings at:

http://www.mtna.org/HSCompFinalists.htm

Alternatively, you can go to the front page:

http://www.mtna.org

enter the site, click on the link to Competition, and then click on the link
to the competition page.

The pages include instructions for dowloading the files as well as playing
them directly out of your web browsers.

Enjoy!

Pianobench,

Thank you for notifying us of the posting of these recordings. They are
excellent midi files and well worth downloading. Unfortunately, I could
not find an active link to the Debussy piece by Jacquelyn Weitz. Could
you check to see if this link has been inadvertently left off. The
title of the piece is there, but not a link to the midi file as is the
case for the other participants.

Thank you again.

Sigh. Yet more interesting classical performances, captured in low-
res mode. Wasn't a Disklavier "Pro" available? Couldn't the
recordings have been made in high-res (XP Mode)?

High-res recordings from Pros can obviously be played just fine on
regular Disklaviers. But, if the extra high-res data is never
captured, it's lost forever to the world.

This makes me sad.

Basic digital: If you record in low-res, you can't make it high-res
again. But, if you record in high-res, you can always "down-convert"
it to low-res.

How can I encourage the usage of Yamaha's best technology for such
recordings in the future?

Good evening, everyone.

MTNA (Music Teachers Nationa Conference) has one of the largest music
educator conventions every year. Yamaha is a major sponsor, providing a
couple dozen pianos, Disklaviers, and Clavinovas to exhibitor booths,
concerts rooms, and presentation rooms. The effort is very costly and a
logistical nightmare.

Ultimately, all of the instruments come through the local dealer. Although I
attended the convention and recorded the students, I do not know why a
Disklavier Pro was not available. However, I can imagine any number of
logical reaons why one was not.

As the proud owner of a DC6Pro, I, too, am a Pro enthusiast. At this time,
however, we live in a world in which Disklavier Pro pianos are in a small
minority and not always immediately available.
