I've searched the archives for threads on the differences between the "regular" and PRO models. Can't find much. The only PRO that I played was a S6 which sounded much better! Wonder why? Anyway, can someone tell me if there is a significant difference between these models? I'm going to use the piano to record (myself) as well as use for composing. Thank you! SJ

Of course you liked the S6!!! We have one here our local dealers concert piano stable and I personally think it is the best sounding piano I have ever tuned! There is a Huge difference between a C6 and an S6, and the difference is much more than the price!!! But what you heard was the difference in pianos, not Disklaviers. Unfortunately I have never seen a handmade S series in anyone's home. Disklaviers (the computer) are installed on the full range of Yamaha pianos. The Pro Disklaviers are capable of much finer nuance in Recording and Playback. I can't imagine a more perfect combination of piano and Disklavier than an S6 with a Pro. I can only imagine along with images of Mt.Everest how high the price might be on something like that combo! Not even Steinway can compete in that league! I can't afford a s6Pro! The retail price of a DC3APRO vs a DC3A is about $8,000 more dollars. Is it worth it? The PRO model also does not have the sound system in it. If I could try both the models, I could play the same piece on both and then hear how they sound. Any opinions of folks who have done this type of comparison? Thank you. For that kind of money, I would definitely try both the pro and the DC3A. The difference is in the recording. The pro gives a much finer reproduction, however, to my ears, I have always thought the "regular" model was just fine, and like you observed, it also comes with a sound system and speakers. Also, because the pro records more data, the song files are bigger - so big that a 3 movement piano concerto does not fit on one floppy or memory disk. I always advocate the "try before you buy" plan! The more information you have about what a instrument does, as well as what it does NOT do, can save regrets later. It all comes down to what you plan to do with your new instrument. There is none finer for professional recording than the Pro.
