Would it be possible to play piano music in midi file format from my PC and the PC midi
output connected to the MX100B midi input?. In this way it would mean I do not have to
constantly change diskette but just using the PC large hard disk space build up a library to
work like a juke box?.

It would be more cost effective and convenient even to allocate a dedicated laptop for this
application. The DSR1 provides me with 1.44MB diskette and additional tone modules
which I do not require. I merely use the disklavier for music playback only.

Can someone please advise me how I can do this.

Thank you
Frank.

Dan, thank you so much! That is both Windows and Mac compatible. This is
exactly what I need!

You most certainly can play your DKV from a computer. For quite a few
years now, I've kept my MIDI collection on a CD-R. I've converted my
PianoSoft collection to MIDI files using the Giebler Utility. I can
easily locate what I'm looking for by using Window's "Find" facility, as
I have given all of the files long descriptive names. (Long ago, I gave
up trying to index and organize a big box of floppies in their silly
crystal cases.)

I happen to use Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 as the sequencer that drives the
DKV's MIDI port. That application allows me to keep playlists (the
answer to your jukebox interest). PG Music's Power Tracks program would
be less expensive than Cakewalk and will do the sequencing job just as
well. I have a MidiSport 1 X 1 (USB) interface attached to the laptop
that I use.

There is one annoyance that I should mention that pertains to Mark II
DKVs. . . If the file you are playing has continuous sustain pedal
directed to channel 3, then you will want to set up the DKV's MIDI input
for "CH=HP"; otherwise, if the file has only On/Off pedal directed to
channel 1, the DKV's MIDI input should be set for "CH=01". (This
annoyance could be fixed by modifying the latter-type MIDI files, by
directing the On/Off pedal to channel 3 thus allowing the DKV MIDI Input
to be left at "CH=HP".

Holly,
I also use the UNO USB midi interface with my MX100A. The interface came with cakewalk express software. I find that by downloading midi files online and editing track properties (using cakewalk express) to play on channel 1, I can make most any midi file play on the mx100A. I was also able to buy a Korg X5DR synthesizer module for $150.00. I then picked up some powered PC surround speakers for $50.So for about $250 I have upgraded my 10 year old disklavier to a XP laptop compatable unit. I sure am glad I didn't waste my childhood on piano lessons. LOL!

Robert,

Thank you very much. So I believe any USB Midi Interface will do the
job. The diskette format on Piansoft is ESEQ. Based on your setup,
any midi file format can do the job.. not necessary midi 0,1 or
general midi.

The MX100B seems to have only 2 channels ( L & R ) as displayed on
the menu screen. I m not sure exactly how channels it could support.
Anyway, my disklavier only uses 1 pedal when playingback thru
piansoft diskette.

Frank..
