PianoSmart Download - Next Steps?

PianoSmart Download - Next Steps?

2003-09-13 by Dirk Leas

I did the firmware upgrade on my DC1A (forgot to delete the
readme.txt file, so it failed first time through). I downloaded
Romanza PianoSmart and the web site named it "1015109
[1].1020154.psx", though the link label was "bla bla bla - eseq". I
copy this file over to a cleanly formatted floppy and follow the
picture on the web site as "CD + PianoSmart Disk + Play" and nuttin!
I do notice that when I put the floppy in, I get "- -" on the LCD
rather than something describing my floppy. Is there another
installer component I need to "build" my PianoSmart" floppies with?
Is there a naming convention I missed?

Anxious to listen,
D

The first part sounds like you did fine. You went to www.Yamaha.com and
downloaded the 4.45 CTRL update, expanded it and put all the files on a
clean floppy disk EXCEPT the readme file. You should then have pushed the
Power On button while holding down the Play button. Put your update disk
into the disk drive and push Enter. Follow the instructions in the window,
and after updating the message says COMPLETE then you turn the Disklavier
off.

From there you lost me. When you downloaded the Romanza, you should put
those files on a different clean floppy disk. You put the companion CD into
the CD player and turn on the Disklavier in the REGULAR way. Then you put
in the Smart PianoSoft disk, and eventually you get the message
"registering". When a song number appears, you just push Play.

I haven't checked recently, but as I remember, the Yamaha site required
installing a small program for translating downloaded disk images to
floppies - you don't just copy the image to the floppy. I think once
the program is installed, it acts as a browser plug-in and is supposed
to do the job quite transparently. (But it was some time ago when I
last bought anything on the yamahamusicsoft site and I really need some
sleep so I didn't check it again. Hope this helps.)

Thanks to you and Carol for the quick response. I originally read the
FAQ and it mentioned the Musicsoft Downloader 4.0, but the
enumeration of supported file types didn't include Smart PianoSoft
(just all the other file types) -- I definitely took it too
literally. I downloaded/installed MSD 4.0 and re-downloaded Romanza
and the registration/install to floppy kicked right in. I'll post
listening comments in a separate thread.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
