SmartMedia floppy drive adaptor

SmartMedia floppy drive adaptor

2003-11-13 by James Fry

Does anyone know if the floppy disk adaptors you can get to allow
smartmedia cards to be used in a normal PC floppy drive will work with a
DKV?

This is the kind of thing http://www.hscus.com/products/flashPath.htm

I'm not sure whether you need a driver for the computer to use it, but if
it appears just like a floppy disk it would be a great way of getting
more storage on the disklavier - imagine how many songs you could get
into a 64 or 128MB card!

I doubt it is possible - does anyone know?

Cheers,

James

Hi

Yes I know. I am affraid it will NOT work for the simple reason that
the PC needs a driver for it.
A floppy disk has a special sector on it called the Boot Sector and
in there are the details of what sort of disk it is 720K or 1.44M.
There is also other information in the boot sector, like how many
sides does the disk have and how many tracks........

The DKV and any other keyboard / piano would be looking for a disk of
either 720K or 1.44M and not anything else.

Sorry to dampen your hopes.

I know, because I have one, and have tried.

Interesting...

For only $24.95US plus shipping, I think that it would be worth taking the
risk worth trying.

You could still use it on another PC or Mac anyway even if it wouldn't work
on the DKV...

Has anyone tried this adapter to see if it works? Seems like if it is
formatted as a typical Disklavier disk, it might then be capable of holding a ton of
data and be quite a unique solution to the storage problem on a typical
floopy. Thanks, Jim

My concern with this solution is not the ability of the Disklavier to
read the media. Rather, my concern is the limitation on the quantity
of songs the system is able to address (99). I made a disk with over
100 short songs on it when I first bought my piano only to find out
that, once I get to song 99, that's all she wrote.
I don't know whether the newer systems (mine doesn't have a CD) have
removed the 99 song limitation.

Good Luck,
Scott
