Damp Chaser in upright Disklavier

Damp Chaser in upright Disklavier

2003-11-21 by nicepresents

My pianoshop just called me before delivery of my new DU1A upright
disklavier, to tell Yamaha sees a problem in installing the Damp
Chaser unit because of the electronics.

Is there a way in which I can mount this safely? The painoshop tells
me when I mount it on the backside (as I read somewhere is possible
solution, but where is allready located something like a power-
converter) this will influence the soundboard more than you would
whish. Does someone have a solution?

Hope to get some good suggestions. Thanks
Greetings,

Sounds like a dilemma!

I would advise contacting the Dampp-Chaser people and discussing it with
them. http://www.dampp-chaser.com/

I've used such a system on a grand for 5 years. I have the impression
that the product is well-engineered and that you can rely on their
advice. I would also be sure that the humidifier system is installed
EXACTLY as they instruct.

Then, I would find out if the advice you received is truly Yamaha's or
simply someone's pedestrian opinion. Do they base this advice on actual
experience or are they crystal-balling?

In my opinion, 42% RH will not damage electronic components. Unless
there is some peculiar situation wherein the components are cold and are
collecting condensed water, I can't imagine a problem. (I am a retired
electronics engineer.)

With that done, you may have some rational basis for deciding what to do.

I do not believe you will have any problem having the back-side dampp
chaser system installed on your DU1A upright. Make sure it is the
complete system equipped with humidistat.
