Disklavier pro vs. normal

Disklavier pro vs. normal

2004-01-21 by Carl Youngblood

Okay, so I've finally gotten some concrete price quotes on different disklavier models,
and I have to say that it seems to me like the whole disklavier pro marketing plan
could be improved significantly. For example, I've gotten a price quote for a
DC3APRO shipped to my door for approximately $40,000. The quote for a DC3A
shipped to my door was approximately $35,000. So the price difference between the
pro technology and the regular technology is only around $5,000, even though it is
far superior. It seems to me like they would have so much more opportunity for
upselling customers to pro versions if they offered them on less expensive piano
models. I would definitely pay $5,000 extra to get a DA1APRO, if it were available.
But the $30-40k price range is pretty difficult to justify for my pocketbook. Let's just
say I'd be out in the dog house for quite a while if I bought one.

If anybody has any contact with Yamaha, please point this out to them!

Thanks for all the information, folks. This is a very useful forum for people who are
interested in disklaviers. I've gotten 10 times more information from you guys than
even the salesmen trying to sell me the pianos. Most of them don't even realize that
there's a difference between pro and regular models.
