Yamaha Smart Piano disquette

Yamaha Smart Piano disquette

2004-02-14 by Jimmy

Hello,
Once more I need some input and some help regarding a SPS disquette (SMART piano) that is slightly damage, the metal cover doesn't return in postion and I am afraid the disk could jam one day.
Any how, my question is this: How can I make a copy to safeguard. I have tried using the Yamaha unit, ( I have a Mark III) but it says copy protected cannont copy, and my computer cannont read it, it is asking to FORMAT, which I do not want to do.
Any tips or help available from anyone... thanks once more for this helping groups.

Do not put the disk back into the DKV. Depends on what
operating system is on your personal computer. If you
have DOS you can use dkvcopy or AnaDisk. I have had
AnaDisk work in XP.

Because it is not a DOS diskette, you will not be able to duplicate the
diskette using any DOS operating system copying programs. You must use
one of the special disk image copying programs such as one of those
Carol recommended. (dkvcopy is downloadable from this Yahoo site.)

Another option is to check with Yamaha Canada http://www.yamaha.ca/ and
see if you could mail them the diskette and have them make a replacement
copy for you.

Hi Jimmy

Go to the files section of this group and download Root-A-Ripper

http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/disklavier/files/Utilities/

You can copy them to your hard disk and then back to a new floppy.

That should do it.

Jimmy,

I don't have any problem copying any floppy diskette with Diskdupe program.

It appears I solved my problem by looking deeper in the file utility section.
I have used the RootARipper file and although it did bring the midi file to my Harddrive as simple midi files I have copy them back to a new disquette and It is just working fine.
On the other hand the DVcopy did not do it....
thanks to guy who put it up. This was a real time saver.
Great group to help each other.

Jimmy

Glad to have helped. The advantage of Root-A-Ripper over the other
programs is you can now back up your disks on to your HDD or even
CDrom. The other programs just give you another copy-protected
floppy, this way you can back them up BEFORE something goes wrong.

RE: [disklavier] Re: Yamaha Smart Piano disquette

2004-02-16 by Todd Muncy

Actually, the dkvcopy utility makes an unprotected copy with a normal
first sector. The copy can be read and moved to the hard drive.
Unfortunately it can only be run from a pure DOS boot-up and not in a
DOS window under any version of windows.

Jimmy

Glad to have helped. The advantage of Root-A-Ripper over the other
programs is you can now back up your disks on to your HDD or even
CDrom. The other programs just give you another copy-protected
floppy, this way you can back them up BEFORE something goes wrong.

Hi Todd

Yes of course you are right. Sorry if I misslead anybody. But it has
a lot of stages.

You have to format a new 720K floppy first.
It only works in TRUE DOS.
Only 720K floppies can be read and used.
You still have to copy the files to the HDD after.

Root-A-Ripper

No floppies needed
Will read both 720K AND 1.44M floppies
Copies files straight to the HDD.
Works in NT, 2000 and XP
