Music Notation help

2004-06-02 by Rick

I've been trying to get some notation questions answered and can't find anyone that is sure. I am teaching myself to play and have bought a notation book with pictures of the chords to help me along. I'm presently working on Floyd Cramers' "Last Date" and can't seem to find or figure out the fingering for the following notes. C/G and Em/B - I originally thought these were 2nd inversions because the G and the B were in the root chord. Further along in the song I got to the following notation - Dm7/G, F/C, Em/C, Dm/C. Since the note after the slash was not in the root chord I figured my original line of thinking about the C/G and Em/B was wrong. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks, Rick

In simple terms, when you see a chord notation with a "/", the right hand
should play the chord listed before the "/" and your left hand should play the
single bass note listed after the "/" (e.g.: Dm/C - right hand would play the
D minor chord (D, F, A) and the left hand would play a single C in the lower
half of the keyboard).
Hope this helps.
