How to edit .mid files?

How to edit .mid files?

2000-07-09 by Saucy

This may be a basic question, but nonetheless I need help. I have
downloaded .mid files from the Internet but when I play them on the
Disklavier all I hear is the sound from the speakers. The piano does
not play. I realize the piano parts are not on the right tracks. Is
there software available which will allow me to manipulate the .mid
files so that the piano will play the .mid file? Thank you.

William,

Before the files, try checking the Disklavier user manuals, and make sure
that you have experimented with the options for reading the piano part from
different tracks in the file. I find that I am able to play many midi files
without editing, just by taking advantage of the built in options on my
Disklavier.

If your midi file really needs some editing, there are many packages
available for this purpose. Here is a web page which describes all sorts of
MIDI related software. There is a huge range in price, and many of these
programs will do much more than you need, so shop carefully.

William,

Do you have a DSR1 on your Disklavier? There is an option which
allows the disklavier to automatically play any piano parts no matter
which tracks they are on. I don't know if the Standard Disklavier
control unit will do this.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
