Can someone explain which ones of these products work on my Mark III
Disklavier? They have diskettes, CDs (some are like the Pianosoft
audio CDs). Who has some of these and can confirm for me? They
have some great titles which I would like to add to my collection
(if they work)... Thank you!

I can confirm firsthand that the Mark III will play PianoDisc and QRS
Pianomation CDs in addition to Yamaha's own CDs. The display on the
control unit will indicate "QR" when playing a QRS CD and "PD" when
playing a PianoDisc CD.

Yamaha's DCD-1 Disklavier CD player can play these additional formats
as well.

I observed that the Mark III and DCD-1 do not do an optimal job
converting the MIDI expression expression information when playing
PianoDisc CDs, however. PianoDisc CDs use a wider expression range
(1-127) and this range is passed through unchanged instead of being
mapped to a more reasonable range for the Disklavier (say, 24-95). As a
result, PianoDisc CDs may sound rather loud and bangy compared to
Disklavier CDs.

As for QRS CDs, Yamaha's support for them has a few bugs in it, but
they would only show up on CDs that include MIDI accompaniment.
Piano-only QRS CDs should play fine on the Disklavier.

How about the live/orchestrated CDs? Like:

Re: Pianodiscs

I own that exact "Smooth Jazz" Pianodisc CD that you referenced, and
I can confirm that it plays fine on my Mark III Disklavier.

Another of my favorite Pianodisc CDs that plays fine on the
Disklavier is Freddie Ravel's "Sunny Side Up"
ref_no=208&category=Live/Orchestrated)

(Freddie also has an excellent Yamaha PianoSoft disc, "Hot Latin
Nights".)

Note, however, that Brian Culbertson's Pianodisc CD
(http://www.pianodisc.com/emusic/choose_item.asp?
ref_no=303&category=Live/Orchestrated) will not play correctly on
the Disklavier, the piano seems to be playing only the rhythm track
or some sort of control signals. I don't know the technical reasons
for it but apparently there are a few PianoDisc CDs that may be a
problem.
