Mark III Technical stuff

A Mark III Disklavier will read E-SEQ, MIDI 1 and MIDI 0 SMF files on either HD or DD disks. The CD drive also plays QRS cds. I don't think it is possible at this time to dump a bunch of MIDI files on a CD and play them thru the CD drive. MIDI files on a CD have to be converted back to analog for that to happen. One really nice thing about the CD output on the Mark III is that the output to the speakers can be true stereo, instead of a double mono output. I am currently experimenting with playing CDs on a Mark IIXG with a MIDI to analog converter and will post the results. The QRS cds put the audio on the right channel (with the MIDI info on the left channel) and I believe Yamaha CDs are putting the audio on the left channel and using the right channel for the MIDI info. The difference between the Mark II and the Mark III is that the Mark III includes all the extras: XG sounds, silent feature, stereo speakers included and mounted, and the CD drive. Like the Mark IIXG it can play SMF 0 and 1 files as well as ESEQ files on both HD and DD diskettes. I'm not totally sure, but I think the speaker output on the MarkIIXG is not true stereo, but just double monoaural. Carol
