Clavinova Problem

Clavinova Problem

2006-11-20 by Eli

It seems the right pedal on my Clavinova (cvp 201 series)is now busted due
to misuse and overuse (it's been almost 4 years now).
It still works, but it makes this AWFUL clanking noise no matter how you
press it (I've tried altering my pedalling technique to see if that helped)
I now a few of you would be familiar with this problem so I need to know:
1. Can the part be replaced?
2. How much for changing JUST the right pedal? (2 other pedals work fine)
3. If the part replacement is too expensive, can a technician fix it?

I'm in Australia, but I shouldn't have any problems getting the parts or
service I need, just wanted to hear from you guys first.

thanks in advance,

eli

P.S. In case you were wondering, I've re-posted this message, since the
original got no replies. Some other pedal question got about 10 replies
overnight, I was not impressed. (It seems people here only care/know about
current models. Maybe we should rename the group "current yamahas yahoo
group?)

This is actually the disklavier user group, not Clavinova.

Hi Eli,

Perhaps the Clavinova service guys don't read this forum, since it doesn't generally involve their product. There is an adjustment screw at the bottom of the pedal base that you could try before you go and replace the pedal. The clanking sound you describe sounds more like a loose nut than anything broken. If it still functions as a pedal, then you maybe be able to get it repaired instead of replaced--I'd contact your dealer's service department and see what they suggest.

Best,

Shana in Denver

Hello Eli!

Your posting probably got no replies because this group is about
disklavier pianos and their owners, and not for clavinovas :-)

That said, I would expect several people here to have both, so maybe you
will eventually get a response if you keep repeating long enough :-)

Have you investigated the mechanics of the pedal? The chances are
something has worked loose or worn, and you could probably quite easily
fix it (I had similar problems with a clavinova many years ago - there
were a couple of adjustments to be made to the pedal mechanism and some
wear on some of the casing. Padding this out and readjusting fixed the
problem in about half an hour.

Regards,

James
