Incompatible disk message

I recently powered up my MX100B, I believe a Mark II XG, and got a message on the display that read "Incompatible disk". There was no disk in the unit. The unit plays fine with a disk. Does anybody have any ideas on what could have happened? Can I recover anything that is stored in the unit? What do I do to remedy this? Any help or recommendation would be appreciated. Thanks.
