How do I set up Apple Express to work with Mark IV?

How do I set up Apple Express to work with Mark IV?

2007-07-16 by jheitzeb1

I have purchased an Apple Express and need to figure out how to set it up as a "Client" to
allow the Mark IV to connect with the internet using a Airport Base Station hooked to a
Macintosh running internet.

I thought this would be easy, but have run into problems as well as confusion. I have read
over the threads in the forum discussing "routers", etc. for accomplishing this. I have run
into a problem according to the info I have read online about this device, it does allow the
device to become a "client" to "access point on the Mac airport base station. But it seems
that when the Apple Expess is in the "Client mode the ethernet cable does NOT work.

Am wondering what to do. Seems that I recall mentioning setting this Apple Express up
first as a client without connecting the disklavier and then once this is done, then connect
ethernet to Mark IV and the Apple Express. Does this have a chance of working?

Has anyone tried to connect their Mac's with a device similar to this and if so how?

Thanks for the help in advance. I have already subscribed to the Disklavier Radio and am
presently directly connected via ethernet cable to a portable Mac, but would like to free
the portable up for other things.

Joan

Good morning, everyone.

Joan, unfortunately I cannot contribute a positive response to your inquiry. I have tried without success to use the Airport Express as a wireless ethernet bridge. I, too, would be delighted to find out that someone has had success with it.

George,

Did you try setting the airport express up without connecting the disklavier ? I plan to call
Apple sometime this week to see if they can offer any suggestions. Have already talked to
them this week about my new iPhone. It has been 'hi-tech week " around here. Switched
land phone to cable phone (had to get that working with alarm, Macs, etc) and then
trying to get airport express working with disklavier and setting up two iphones and a
new ipod for photo storage from a camera.

Thanks for your quick response. If I get an suitable answer to this problem will post it on
the site.

Thanks,
Joan

Good afternoon, everyone.

Joan, I don't recall the exact sequence of events that I went through when setting up the Airport Express router. Apple provides configuration software for this purpose. I believe that I chose the correct settings, but I was unsuccessful.

Joan,

The way to set this up _is_ somewhat confusing. As you have
discovered, if the device is set up as a client (by selecting "Join
an Existing Wireless Network (Wireless Client)" in the "Wireless
Mode" pop-up of the Airport Admin Utility), the ethernet port is not
enabled. What you need to do is select "Create a Wireless Network
(Home Router)" in this pop-up. This will allow the ethernet port to
be active. Then you need to set up your main wireless router as a WDS
"main base station" and the Airport Express as a WDS "remote base
station". This is what allows the Express to join your wireless network.

This may be straying to far off-topic. Feel free to contact me
privately if you need additional info to get it up and running.

Hi Matthew,

I don't think this is getting too far off-topic - subjects like these
and the indepth discussion are what makes the archives of this group so
useful! Please post any additional information to the list - those that
don't want to read it can quite easily mark the thread as read, and the
subject like gives away that it is a Mark IV question. I'm sure as time
goes on more and more people will have similar problems with their Mark
IVs and detailed postings of how to resolve the problems will be much
appreciated.

Regards

James

Has Anyone Successfully hooked up Apple Express to work with Mark IV?

2007-08-24 by jheitzeb1

George, Matthew or anyone else,

I have been out of town for the last month or so. Now I need to get back to making my
Mark IV connect to Disklavier Radio via Apple Extreme Base Station and Apple Express
(using WIFI capability).

I have replaced my old Apple Base Station with a new Apple Extreme Base Station using the
latest version of Apple's "Airport Utility". Apple has replaced the old version "Airport
Admin Utility" with this newer version. This newer version has different screens and I am
lost setting things up.

I would like to use this software to setup the Apple Express device to act as a WDS "remote
base station". I need to know the steps in setting up this device as well as the steps to set
up the the Apple Extreme as a WDS main base station.

Has anyone successfully done this with their Mark IV disklavier and if so, I would
appreciate some help.

Thanks,
-Joan

Good afternoon, everyone.

Joan, I will be very interested if you have success. I tried this myself a couple of times and could not get it to work.
