CD drive malfunction..

CD drive malfunction..

2008-09-28 by John G. Felker

My CD ROM drive will not longer read, and it not displayed as a selectable drive on the head
unit.

Mark III Grand Touch Disklavier.

Yesterday, when I placed a Pianosolft Plus Audio cd in the drive, it played only the Midi
portion (the piano accompaniment) not the original CD audio.. now to day, nothing.. just a
click or two when inserted.

Is it like the DRIVE or the "motherboard"?

Mitsumi Drive, Manufactured Feb 2005
Model: SR244W1.

thanks,

JOHN

Greetings John,

I don't know anything specific about this system but my experience with electronics is that it is connections about 95% of the time.

Can you use the audio input from another CD player? If so, the system board is probably OK and it may just be the CD drive or the connection between it and the rest of the system.

If it is a rather generic CD drive it probably has an audio cable connecting it to the system. Try checking for a good connection and use a good grade of contact cleaner / lube on it. If it is OEM for Yamaha it might have a ribbon cable or other connector.

If you find that drive is bad and is expensive to replace you might want to use an external drive. A Sony DVD/CD player that will play MP3 jukebox DVDs costs $50. You can fit 70 hours of music on a DVD.
