computer-Disklavier nothing happens

computer-Disklavier nothing happens

2008-11-07 by Dokhanchi

I need help please with my Mark III B version (DGC1-B). I have used VanBascos's software per carol's recommendation and am using the USB-MIDI cable I bought from Ebay. The ToHost selector is set to midi and the cable powers up and recognized by he computer. When I play a song in vanbasco, the blue light on the cable flashes showing the data is going through the USB cable into midi in/out. The problem is I can not get the piano to play it. When I turn the disklavier on, it is still on the internal drives. Doesn't have to be on an external midi selection? I can't find such selection. Any help is appreciated.

Good morning, everyone.

Bob, there are a few things to check:

(1) It is very easy to confuse which plugs connect to MIDI In and MIDI
Out. Try reversing them. (You won't hurt anything if you have
incorrectly reversed the connection.)

(2) The Disklavier is both a piano and a tone generator. Certain
incoming MIDI tracks play on the piano, and all others are played by
the tone generator. If the speakers are note turned on, you will not
hear the other tracks.

(3) To insure that your Disklavier plays the correct tracks on the
piano, you need to match the piano's Receive Channel(s) to the MIDI
channels to which the piano track(s) are assigned in the MIDI file.
Unfortunately, the piano tracks may be on different channels in
different files. The simplest way to account for this is to let the
Disklavier guess (which it can do correctly about 95% of the time) and
set the piano's Receive Channel to PRG(ALL). I have not used the B
version of the Mark III. I am guessing that you make this selection in
the following way:

--Press Function
--Use the Right Arrow button to select MIDI Setup and then press Enter
--With the cursor next to Piano Part, press Enter
--The display will show you the current Piano Receive channel which
you can change with the +/- buttons.

Hi PianoBench,

Everything you said was done but I still do not get anything. Do I need to have the disklavier's drive on something else to recognize the data is coming from an external source? It almost feels like something has to be turned on so the Piano can receive the data sent by the cable. Once again I am using a USB to midi cable I bought from Ebay. The laptop recognizes the cable and installs it once plugged in. When I play the song in VanBasco's jukebox, the light on the cable flashes showing the data is going through the cable but does not seem to enter the piano at all. Help please.

Good afternoon, everyone.

Bob, please send me the MIDI file directly to my email address (pianobench@...
), not to the list, and I'll see if there is an issue with the file.

Greetings Dokhanchi,

I have a program that fixes some of the things that can cause a file
to not play on the DKV. If you send me the file that you are having
problems with, I might be able to suggest a fix.
