Speakers for Disklavier DU1A

Speakers for Disklavier DU1A

2009-02-21 by crhea1

We recently purchased a Disklavier Mark III DU1A, which does not come
with speakers. Does anyone have advice regarding which powered
speakers to purchase for the DU1A? Our piano has the polished ebony
finish, and we would like some speakers that look fairly nice, as the
piano looks beautiful. I can't find where Yamaha recommends a specific
speaker for this piano.

My U1 (MX100 II XG) has Yamaha powered speakers mounted in the cabinet.
One at the right , one left. They are small but provide plenty of sound.
The speakers are not much different than high quality computer speakers.
They balance with the piano's sound nicely.

I really like the Yamaha MSP 5. Not sure if they look good enough for you...they are
the same speakers standard on a M4 grand and sound great.

I´ve been given this some thought because a wireless Amphony connection to my HiFi doesn´t work due to all the interference in the 2,4 GHz band. That would have been my favorite option, by far.

Space inside a U1 is very limited, but a Yamaha MSP3 might just fit in when I check the specifications. A MSP5 would be slightly to large I guess. Otherwise we have to settle for PC speakers.

So I´m really curious to hear from listmembers who have tried this option or found other ways to fit some stealth speakers inside a Disklavier upright, that sound right too!

Thank you for the input. I have been considering the MSP5. Would
you happen to know the difference between the MSP5 and the MSP5A
speakers? Also, I have been thinking about the slightly smaller MSP3
speakers, and wondered if they would be adequate for a DU1A located
in a medium sized Living Room. Do you know anything about the MSP3's?

Consider purchasing Yamaha's MPS3 powered speakers at about $200.00 ea. These come with the purchase of current Mark VI Disklavier grands and seem adequate for the purpose.
