Converting a '90s disklavier diskette to an audio CD without a disklavier.

Converting a '90s disklavier diskette to an audio CD without a disklavier.

2009-08-18 by andrew_bennington

My Grandmother recorded some music on a disklavier upright in the early '90s on a 3.5inch diskette. I have the original and a copy I burned on a CD. the file format is .fil. I was wondering if any of you had Ideas on making this into an audio CD for family and friends to have. I don't have access to a disklavier or I would just record out of the headphone jack. I am in Southern Indiana near Vincennes and about an hour north of Evansville, If someone has a disklavier they would be willing to share for this project. This is the only recording we have of her playing and since she is in the latter stages of hutchinson's disease, she will never play again and therefore I am eager to get it it converted or recorded. I am welcoming any ideas.

Thanks,
Andy

Greetings andrew_bennington,

you can convert the .fil files to MIDI and then convert these to audio. i have the necessary programs and will do it for you if there are only a few files. if you have a lot to do, i can give more specific instructions on how to do it.

I'd also like to offer my assistance.

I can take the .fil files as is and play them on my piano and record the results for you.

Since .fil files are rather small, you should be able to just email the files.

The resulting audio may be large, but I can just host them on my server for you to download (or I can mail you a CD)

-Kevin

That sounds great. There are 4 .fil files with less than 80kb all together. This produces about 25min of playing time on the piano. I would be glad to reimburse you for time and materials for you to mail me an audio copy on CD. Let me know what email you want the files sent to?

Thanks, andy

There are about 80kb of files on the disk, let me know what email adress to send them to so you can evaluate them. My ultimate goal is to have an audio cd that I can burn copies for family members.

You can email the .fil files directly to me (my email address should show up as part of this post, I think)

No need to worry about reimbursement. It shouldn't amount to much, and I'm happy to help.

Kevin, I completed burning the mp3's and they sound totally awesome on a stereo, I will be burning about 10 more to give to family members. You have made a lot of people happy being able to hear grandma play again.
