Snow Leopard and Virtual PRC

Snow Leopard and Virtual PRC

2009-09-20 by qv308

I've installed Snow Leopard (Mac OSX 10.6.1), but I am unable to start the Virtual PRC. The DKV server comes up on my network and I can select "DNA", but when I click start (after having entered the hard to remember ID and password for Virtual PRC), nothing happens.

Any suggestions? I suspect there may be a Rosetta problem somewhere.

Good evening, everyone.

It is possible that your Java is not up to date or is corrupted. I am
not having any trouble with the Virtual PRC and Snow Leopard.

I did, however, have a similar problem back in July after a Leopard
update, as did a couple of other people that I know. I found some
information in the Apple Discussions online:

****************
The update deletes the old Java Web Start app located here:

/Applications/Utilities/Java/Java Web Start

and creates a new Java Web Start app located here:

/System/Library/CoreServices/Java Web Start

and the update does not appear to rebuild the launch services database
properly (in some cases).

If you open /System/Library/CoreServices in the finder any
applications in CoreServices which are not registered in the launch
services database will be added.

After doing this jnlps worked again from Safari, FireFox, and the
Finder.
****************

That fix worked for me: Just open that set of folders and then close
them. Give it a try and let us know.

No luck. I tried the procedures you suggested. My Coreservices folder has no subfolder for Java, on the application JavaStart.

DKVBrowser does work, however.

Good afternoon, everyone.

On my Macintosh which is running Snow Leopard, I have the following
items:

Jar Launcher
Java Web Start

in this location:

/System/Library/CoreServices

If you don't have the same, I suspect that you don't have a complete
Java installation on your computer. According to www.java.com, the
latest Java is installed by selecting Software Update... from the
Apple menu on your computer.

I checked the directory for my MacIntosh HD for both entries, Jar Launcher and Java Web Start, and both are present. According to the OSX Software Update function, all my programs are up to date.

Again, the Disklavier server appears as a shared server in the Finder window (on the left, along with the hard disks). When I click on it, I am able to select DNA as a folder and VirtualPRC.html within it. I launch this program using Safari, a brief download window appears, and then . . . nothing.

Good morning, everyone.

I think that you'll need to call Yamaha Piano Service to get an answer
to this vexing problem:

I had an error, but removed the prcstart file to trash, Clicked on DNA, then prcstart.html (using Firefox) entered password and ID and it was saved to my desktop as 'prcstart.php'. I then clicked on that file to run the 'Virtual PRC' ... also had my disklavier playing a song while performing this sequence.

Try running the same steps using Firefox as your default Browser.

Look for a file that is labeled 'prcstart.php' on your hard drive.

Note: A quick way to find that file is to click on 'Today' under 'Search For' in a new finder window. View in List format and sort by Date Modified to find the file.

I thought I posted this earlier, since it has not been posted ... I am reposting the squence of instructions that worked for me.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the suggestions, but again no luck. No idea what's wrong.

I will try Yamaha tech support to see what they suggest.
