PRC-100 Won't Connect

PRC-100 Won't Connect

2009-10-19 by wise_bwise

I have a Mark IV for a couple of years now and everthing had been working fine. However, the other day I noticed that the PRC-100 would not connect to the piano any more. I've tried rebooting the controller, rebooting the piano and "associating" the remote to the piano without success. Each time, it says the piano cannot be found.

I'm at a loss on what to try next. Any suggestions?

First of all, unplug the Disklavier from the wall for 1 minute, then plug it
back in. While waiting, check the CF card type receiver under the piano to
make sure it is properly in place. Sometimes children or vacuum cleaners
can dislodge it. It may look all right, so just make sure it is straight in
the slot.

Most probably you are dealing with a battery that is not being charged in
the PRC-100. If you have been charging the unit in the cradle, try charging
it directly from the cable (the one that goes into the cradle). You should
see an orange light to indicate the unit is charging. Let it charge at
least 15 minutes before trying to connect to the piano. Also, remove the
battery from the PRC-100, then reinsert it before charging.

If the battery fails to charge, then you probably need a new one.

I believe Piano Bench will be able to give more detailed instructions - but maybe this will help.

	* Power down you DKV and unplug from any power supply for at least 1 minute
	* Power down you PRC and then remove the battery from the compartment - replace the battery but wait until you power up the DKV to power up the PRC
	* Plug in the DKV after waiting at least 1 minute - the DKV will automatically start and come up to 'standby' mode.
	* When the dim green power light is lit (indicating you are in 'standby' mode) push the dim green light and bring the DKV to fully powered up mode.
	* Power up your PRC
	* Hit the (very small) 'Menu" icon located on the very bottom left of your PRC display.
	* This takes you to the PRC-100 menu which has either 9 or 10 icons (depending on your latest upgrade)
	* Tap on 'Piano Assign' (3rd icon on 1st row)
	* follow all on screen instructions and make sure that the final message you receive says something like 'DKV successfully assigned'. If this fails to assign - repeat the piano assign procedure again - but move as close as possible to your I/O center when repeating the procedure
If this fails - there are other procedures that will help - but it may be wise to contact the dealer who sold you the DKV to help with those procedures. They have been supplied with a DVD explaining how to keep the PRC connected to the DKV

Hope that helps.

Alan
