Mark 3, Mac Laptop and MIDI

Mark 3, Mac Laptop and MIDI

2009-12-05 by donsorensen

Next week I'm getting a Yamaha DGC1B (very excited). I would like to use a MacBook to store MIDI files and control the piano. What software is available (for the Mac) to do this?

Congratulations Don on your DGC1B purchase. I have a Yamaha DS6M4PRO that makes my world rock. I also have a 1915 Adler upright player piano that has been in my family since Christmas Day 1915.

An S6, Paul? I'm drooling! I have a C2M4, and it is WONDERFUL. I'm still learning a lot, and have yet to be able to control it through my computer/wireless Internet connection.
Additionally, the sustain pedal does not always work on play-back. When this happens, I go over the the piano, depress the sustain pedal with my foot - sometimes more than once - and then the pedal will play normally, until it decides to stop again (often on the next song). Any ideas as to why this might be happening, and how I might fix it, anyone?

Don,

Congrats on your DGC1 purchase!

I'm no Mac expert, but I'm pretty sure it will store and play MIDI files
right out of the box. You'll need a Midi interface. Plug the midi
interface into a UBS port and you're ready to rock.

Re: [disklavier] Re: S6 - wow! Question about sustain pedal

Try running through the pedal calibration. If this doesn't work, get a technician to have a look to make sure that the sustain mechanism and the solenoid alignment is up to spec. As a final solution, there is a modification to the pedal lever which could be fitted.

Re: S6 - wow! Question about sustain pedal

2009-12-09 by wandamusic@aol.com

Does the sustain problem always happen or only in certain songs?

There could be an errant pedal on midi event near the end of a song that
never has its pedal off event.

Blessings,

Wanda

Re: [disklavier] Re: S6 - wow! Question about sustain pedal

Good question, Wanda. I'll have to pay closer attention to see. It sometimes kicks in by itself part-way through a song. I really haven't taken note of when it does what. Guess I'll make some kind of a record of when these errors occur.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Click on the "Menu" icon on the bottom left of the screen on the PRC100 (you're looking for the same menu you use for the "Piano assign" function). On that page, there is a "Service Centre" option. Click on that, and the next page will have the "Pedal Calibration" option.
