Capability of Disklavier 4

Capability of Disklavier 4

The Yamaha DVD that came with our unit describes the ability to insert an audio CD in the CD player of the disklavier and also a Floppy Disk into the FP drive and to have the disklavier play the CD of the artist and the Yamaha to play the piano portion. Is this a Pianosoft application and if so which one? I have a new system and so far I'm only seeing downloads available where someone else is playing their version of the artists (such as Elton John) piano accompaniment rather than actually having Elton John's version so it's like he's playing in your living room. Where do I go for that capability?

I only have one of these a Norah Jones floppy disk that I purchased that would play the piano. I had the same regular audio CD that went with this.

I think it is this type of Pianosoft that is on the Yamaha page (URL below). I doubt that these are actually played by the artist.

http://www.yamahamusicsoft.com/en/category/PianoSoft/catalog?group=Smart+PianoSoft

If you click on any of these titles on the above URL, you will see that they also list a link to buy the audio CD from Amazon. I think these are the ones you are referencing.

Even though these reference Mark III model of disklavier, I believe this is what I purchased and it worked with my Mark IV.

Possibly calling or sending an email to Yamaha to ask about original artist floppies would be your best bet in finding some. I know that there are a few artists that do record in the Yamaha studios.

If you look in the Yamaha PianoSoft catalog (online or hardcopy), you will
see that they sell floppies (with MIDI files that actually play your piano
keys) that go along with original audio CD recordings. You must match the
floppy with the serial number of the CD. It is called PianoSoft Plus Audio.
You can buy the CDs separately like on Amazon.com. I have several of these
and especially like hearing the piano play along with the John Williams
collections and the Harry Potter movie soundtrack. A good example of the
MarkIII and IV capabilities ability to transpose the audio is the original
Broadway version of Fiddler on the Roof. Theodore Bikel sings between the
notes, but the Disklaviers transpose his singing to sound good with the
piano tuned to A440. My MarkIIXG does not have that ability, so the singing
sounds a bit out of tune with my Disklavier. Make certain that the audio CD
is the correct one for matching the floppy, i.e. the movie soundtracks are
either the movie or the broadway versions.

Good afternoon, everyone.

Carol's remark about her Mark IIXG not having the ability to adjust the pitch of the CD during playback is because she had to use the add-on DCD1 in order to get the CD feature. Presumably this will not be a problem if the original Mark IIXG control unit and DCD1 are replaced with a DKC-850.
