I have found the following to be helpful when trying to restore a connection on a MarkIV to the PRC-100 handheld controller. The same also applies to the tablet controller.
1) unplug the Disklavier from the wall. Wait 15 seconds and plug it in again.
2) remove the battery from the PRC-100 unit (or tablet controller), then put it back in
3) make sure the CF card under the piano is properly seated. sometimes they get whacked by vacuum cleaners.
4) make sure the PRC-100 is really being charged. You should see an orange light. Many times the unit is not receiving electricity when sitting in its cradle. remove unit from cradle and plug the power cord directly into the handheld.
5) be patient while the system reboots. It is much slower than you would think.
6) update the PRC-100 controller. Sometimes when people update their system software, they forget to update the PRC-100 as well.
7) also, don't forget to update the Demo program as well as it often contains extra free music.
Hope this helps. I have yet to see it fail!

Thanks so much, Carol. I'm waiting for Yamaha to send me version 4.0. I tried downloading it, but it would always time out 5 seconds (yes, 5 SECONDS!) before finishing the download. Ugh. I'll print your instructions and give this a go when the update comes. I have never updated the software, so it is a bit behind (version 1.0, it appears). I'll have to follow whatever instructions come with the software, but hopefully I can prevail!

Meanwhile, you could try downloading version 3 and practice!

Great information - but may I humbly add;

after step 5 - before step 6 - assign the PRC-100 to the disklavier (icon on top
right of the prc-100 menu called "Piano Assign") It will go through about 4 or
5 screens and make sure it says DKVxxxxxxx successfully assigned to your
disklavier. If the wireless LAN temp is still present - you do not have a good
connection.

Step 6 is called "Update Interface" and it will be vitally important that you do
this step if you are going from version 1.? to 4.1 The "Update Interface" will
be right next to "Piano Assign" on the PRC-100 menu

After installing 4.1 you will not need to do step 7 - I believe that updating
the demo program is automatically done in the upgrade. I could be wrong on that
- so keep checking with the experts like Carol and others in this fine group.

Alan

Just one little point: The update does not automatically update the demo album. This has to be done separately, after the PRC update, otherwise you can get a couple of weird problems under certain conditions.

Re: [disklavier] Updating demo album?

2010-10-28 by Shelley Bacon

Thanks everyone for the help with the update. I have my Disklavier and PRC-100 all updated, but I don't see any instructions in the documentation as to how to update the demo album. Could you kindly point me in the right direction? Thanks!

From the main screen, go to "SETUP" -> "SYSTEM". One of the 3 options on that page is "RECALL DEMO ALBUM". Tick on that and the piano will do the rest.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
